With the New Administration Threatening the Human Rights of Black and Brown people, Million Hoodies Movement for Justice Shares Their Perspective on What’s at Stake

January 20, 2017

As the United States inaugurates a new president, many across the country have expressed concern about the vision and direction of the country by the incoming administration.

The membership of Million Hoodies compiled reactions from around the country on what’s at stake for our communities with the inauguration of new administration that has promised to deport millions of undocumented immigrants, create a Muslim registry, and end health coverage for vulnerable Americans.

“There is a deep and undeniable need to fight on behalf of those that have existed on the margins of society in America for far too long,” said national policy chair and DC chapter co-chair, Pete Haviland-Eduah. “The incoming administration has used fear tactics and threats to so many that have been disenfranchised by the political process for their own personal monetary and power benefit. We at Million Hoodies refuse to normalize this type of behavior and discrimination and look forward to working with those willing to take a stand with us to fight for the future we all deserve.”

The president-elect has vowed to enact and repeal policies that disproportionately and directly impact communities of color, women, members of the LGBTQ community, and those not of a Judeo-Christian background. As a human rights membership organization that represent hundreds of young Black and Brown people across the country, Million Hoodies Movement for Justice commits to building a movement for human dignity and democracy to ensure that our communities are prosperous and feel safe.
